Crafts & Yarn

Yarn and WoolAt Pinecones & Needles we offer a wide selection of crafting projects each month for all ages.   No prior registration is required.  Just come by, pick from our monthly offerings, and start crafting.  New to crafting, no problem!  Our staff is here to assist you every step of the way.  Each craft is priced to cover the cost of material, and the expected length of time to complete the project.

Crafting is a fulfilling activity to all.  Children love to play with wool, bees wax, and eco-friendly materials, and the finished "craft" is only the by-product of the rich sensory experience brought about to create the object.

Try your hands at sewing, embroidery, needle felting or wet felting.  Paint a fairy house, decorate a treasure box.  Learn the craft of Decoupage, or to Kirigami, paint a candle holder and roll your own candle. Come craft, chat and play.

About Our Yarn & Wool

Yarn and WoolPinecones & Needles would not be a Waldorf inspired store without offering wool and yarn.  Handwork is an extensive part of Waldorf education with children formally learning to knit in the first grade.   They then move on to crochet, embroidery, cross stitch and more.

You will find at our Belmont location a nice selection of wool yarn, fleece, wool roving, and wool felt in Waldorf’s handwork tradition.

Featured Yarn & Wool

Peace Fleece

I drove all the way up to the small town of Porter Maine, a couple of months before opening the store. I spent half the day meeting the owners, Peter and Marty. Peter Hagerty and his wife, Marty Tracy, started buying wool from the Soviet Union, back in 1985. Their hope was to defuse the threat of nuclear war through their trading relationship with the Soviet Union.

Peace Fleece found ranchers from Montana and Maine to supply the American wool for the next six years.  In the early 1990’s, Peace Fleece expanded its offerings to include fleece from Israel, the West Bank, Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine and Romania. They then blended this fleece with wool from Cottage Hill Farm in Ohio and mohair from Texas. In 2010, they decided to work closer to home and created partnerships with the Cheyenne River Reservation in South Dakota and Navajo Reservation in Arizona and New Mexico.
